Late Shri. Prabhakar Dwarkanath Karkhanis, an accomplished personality who was born on 1st July 1928 in Khopoli, an industrial city in the taluka of Raigad district in the state of Maharashtra. Father Dwarkanath Karkhanis, desired to provide quality education to his children, but due to the non-availability of educational facilities in Khopoli, he came to Ambernath along with his family during the era of independence struggle. Prabhakar in his childhood struggled hard to get education and to continue it. A brilliant child in him became an entrepreneur, teacher, globetrotter, banker, donor, and philanthropic person in the future. Prabhakar Dwarkanath Karkhanis was an alumnus of the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya Ambernath run by The Education Society Trust. As a paradigm of charity, he created an example of being philanthropic by financially contributing to make the education possible for economically weaker students easier through lifelong hard work. He passed away on 12th July 2010 in Pune at the age of 82. His entire life journey is highly inspiring to the society and proving the popular saying, “where there is a will, there is a way.”

The vision envisaged by Late Prabhakar Dwarkanath Karkhanis, an entrepreneur, philanthropic social reformer to provide quality education to the disadvantaged became the reality. He contributed around forty lakhs for the construction of College Building and for other college amenities. Late P. D. Karkhanis has also made huge contribution for constructing a Hostel in Pune to cater to the educational needs of poor students through Vidyarthi Sahayyak Samiti. Schools, colleges and hostels are the places through which social transformation can be brought in. It is very much essential for nation building and promoting values, professionalism, social sensitivity and dynamic entrepreneurship.

Due to the efforts of benevolent educational reformer Late Shri. Prabhakar Karkhanis, today, numerous students are able to acquire knowledge here, step out into the world. They hold him in high regards. Similarly, Ambernath, primarily a worker's settlement, has grown into a big city. The area accommodates a considerable number of people with various social, economic, and educational needs. To such students who come from this region, institution is like a boon as the College offers them the opportunity for higher education.

The legacy of Late Shri. P. D. Karkhanis continues to run the College. Financially weaker students receive monetary assistance from the ‘Vidyarthi Sahyata Nidhi’ a fund raised by Teachers of the College. We, all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college following the footsteps of our ideal- Late Shri. P. D. Karkhanis and the motto, "Let’s help each other, hold hands on the righteous path.
